The purpose of this organization is to encourage the study of history and recognize excellence in history. Facilitate student transitions into the workforce, and generate a sense of department community through organizing events and encouraging college and lifelong learning and teaching.

Phi Alpha Theta is the National History Honor Society, a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through encouraging research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students and teachers together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways.
